TRAINING LEADERS
Contributors to That Man May See make a difference in resident and fellow education. Our goal for 2011 is to raise $120,000 annually to directly support excellence in education for these young doctors in training. Young ophthalmologists in training will serve the local, national, and global communities for years to come.
Resident and fellow alumni of the Department of Ophthalmology and Francis I. Proctor Foundation at UCSF train in one of the most prestigious medical programs in the nation. Upon completion of their training at UCSF, these new ophthalmologists go on to the best fellowships for advanced training and to the most respected institutions.
UCSF Ophthalmology reports the highest number of graduating residents in the country who receive the prestigious Heed Award for postgraduate training. In 2011, three of 16 nationally-selected Heed Awards went to UCSF Ophthalmology’s graduating residents, and in 2010 three of 14 were awarded to UCSF Ophthalmology residents.
