LEVERAGING YOUR GIFT

Eye surgery when I was five made a big difference in my life. Thank you to all the UCSF doctors who bring, save, and improve vision for hundreds of thousands. A special thank you also to That Man May See staff members for their dedication to ensuring that such important work receives much needed support from people like me.

We recently received news that the board of That Man May See would support our work with bridge funds to carry us over during our NIH funding hiatus. I’d like to focus on why the funds are so critical to us. First, the simple vote of confidence that comes with news of support like yours cannot be overlooked. I certainly appreciate the fact that the board has considered our research worthwhile, although I can’t begin to imagine the effort and time that goes into soliciting the funds to support us.

Second, as you know, the current critical level of funding by NIH has not kept pace with demand. This has resulted in increased, unprecedented levels of competition for financial support. The TMMS board is allowing us to complete pilot experiments essential for the long-term success of our research mission. I am very grateful to the board. I consider our laboratory to be fortunate to have your generosity.
