Our Vision
That Man May See supports the vision of UCSF Ophthalmology: to save and restore sight for present and future generations
That Man May See is the support foundation for vision science at UCSF.
Our Mission
That Man May See, a 501(c)(3) public charity, supports patient care, vision research, and education, providing hope that, one day, all may see.
Our Story
Almost half a century ago, restoring sight to the blind and eradicating eye disease was the hope and dream of UCSF clinician scientists Samuel Kimura, MD, and Michael Hogan, MD. They knew that research and advanced technologies could uncover answers to halt even the most challenging sight disabilities. They realized that private philanthropy would accelerate the process and founded That Man May See to:
- Anchor large-scale discovery programs to move quickly from laboratory bench to patient care, translating ideas into active solutions for those burdened by vision loss and blindness.
- Seed-fund initial inquiries of novel approaches to prevention and treatment of eye disease. These inquiries allow researchers to demonstrate “proof of concept” essential to securing major government grants.
Today, That Man May See is gathering support to conclude the Future of Vision Campaign for UCSF Ophthalmology.
